Rainsville to repave Marshall Road

Published October 9, 2009

On Sept. 22, Rainsville councilmen Bejan Taheri and Fred Bobo had a very successful trip to the state highway department in Montgomery.

It'll be awhile coming but the duo came away from the state capitol with a promise of $150,000 toward the paving of Marshall Road.

Sometime in the next few weeks, Rainsville should find out if it qualifies for another $50,000 toward the project.

Estimates for the widening and repaving are $300,000.

"The road is 19 feet wide and we want to make it 21 feet," Taheri said.

The road, a popular shortcut between Fort Payne and Sylvania, has had potholes filled "about 15 times" in the last year alone, according to Taheri.

Between waiting for the state monies and bidding out the project, Taheri estimates it'll probably be spring before the project begins.

In other business, the council:

• voted to buy a hammer drill (with assorted bits) and a power greasegun for the sewer department, at a cost of $997.

• voted to buy a load of brick dust for the ball fields, at a cost of between $1,500-1,800.

• met in executive session for 45 minutes to "discuss ongoing litigation and the good name and character of an employee."
