Progress made on AgriBusiness Center

Published December 31, 2009

After the money came through to build the Northeast Alabama AgriBusiness Center, the city of Rainsville cut a road from Highway 75 to Rodeo Lane, which deadends at the Field of Dreams.

The road, approximately 1/3 mile long, has now been named Ledbetter Lane, after former councilman and mayor Nathaniel Ledbetter.

The vote at last week's city council meeting was unanimous.

Ledbetter, who served on the council from 1996-2000, and was mayor from 2000-02, is now a member of the AgriBusiness Center Board.

In other business, the council:

• Voted to block text messaging on all city-owned cellphones.

• Nelson Gregory's resignation from the police force was made official. Gregory has taken a job in Geraldine.
