Looking for something to do to work off some of the turkey? The town of Collinsville will hold its annual Christmas lighting ceremony today at 5 p.m.
It will be held at the corner of Highways 11 and 68.
There will be caroling, music, hot chocolate and cider, and of course, a visit from Santa Claus. Santa will arrive via a fire truck. He will then visit with the children.
"We have a huge tree this year," said town clerk Peggy Wright. "We're all very excited about it."
On Dec. 5, at 2 p.m., Collinsville will hold its Christmas parade.
Coach L.D. Dobbins and his wife, Marian, will be the grand marshals.
Dobbins coached at Collinsville for 29 of his 31 years. His 1975 team won the school's only basketball state championship. He spent two seasons at Southside High.
Dobbins started coaching one year after graduating from Jacksonville State. He finished his career with a 511-311 record.
He is a charter member of the DeKalb County Sports Hall of Fame and went into the Alabama High School Sports Hall of Fame in 2000.
