Bailey

Mr. Elmer Douglas Bailey, "Doug Bailey," 60, of Rainsville, passed away Friday, Dec. 11, 2009, at DeKalb Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Dec. 13, at Rainsville Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kevin McCreless and the Rev. Fred Bobo officiating. Burial followed in Mountain View Memory Gardens with Rainsville Funeral Home, Inc. directing.

Survivors include his wife, Kay Bailey of Rainsville; two sons, Easton Bailey and fiance Anna of Rainsville and Jonathan Bailey of Rainsville; two brothers, Mike Bailey of Rainsville and Mark Scott Bailey of Rainsville; one sister, Debbie Jones of Coppers Cove, Texas; and one grandchild, Ethan Bailey of Rainsville.



Barrontine

Mrs. Edna Wilks Barrontine, 94, of Henagar, passed away Friday, Dec. 11, 2009.

Funeral services were held at Kerby Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kevin Wilks officiating. Burial followed in Henagar Community Cemetery.

Survivors include sons and daughter-in-law, Charles Brent and Mary Barrontine of Rainsville and Bart Nathan Barrontine of Prattville; brother, Herman Wilks of Jacksonville, Fla.; sisters, Ruby Meeks of Pisgah and Evelyn Casey of Atlanta, Ga.; grandchildren, Col. Brian Barrontine, Brad Barrontine and Brady Barrontine; great-grandchildren, Ben Barrontine, Kelly Wear, Drew Wear, Brock Barrontine, Mary Frances Barrontine, Bayne Barrontine, Sarah Katheryn Barrontine and Sean Barrontine.



Biddle

Mrs. Bonnie Louise (Lea) Biddle, 76, of Rainsville, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009.

Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 11, at Kerby Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Clinton Graham and the Rev. David Allison officiating.

Survivors include her husband, Willard Lee Biddle of Rainsville; son and daughter-in-law, Lee and Brenda Biddle of Sylvania; daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Rodger Wise of Rainsville; sisters, Patricia Biddle of Henagar and Pauline Hope of Ider; six grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.



Brown

Mr. Gordon W. Brown, 91, of Gadsden, formerly of Dawson, passed away Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009, at Riverview Regional Medical Center.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, Dec. 15, at Liberty Methodist Cemetery in Dawson.

Survivors include Larry G. Brown of Gadsden and Terry W. Brown of Gadsden; sisters, Margie Thomas of Anniston and Barbara Johnston of Ackworth, Ga.; six grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his wife, OIlie Bouldin Brown, and son, Donald Brown.



Bryan

Mrs. Syble I. Bryan, 84, of Jackson, Miss., formerly of Sylvania, passed away Friday, Dec. 11, 2009, at MS Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, Miss.

Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 14, at Rainsville Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Trinity Cemetery.

Survivors include one daughter, Juanita Day; one son-in-law, David Christopher; two granddaughters, Lucretia Winters of Allen, Texas and Samantha Boyd of Raymond, Miss.; two great granddaughters, Victoria Winters and Emily Winters; three great grandsons, Jeremy Boyd, Noah Boyd and James Winters.

Mrs. Bryan was preceded in death by her husband, Irvin C. Bryan; and one son, Henry Arnell Bryan.

Mrs. Bryan was a homemaker, a Baptist and a resident of Jackson, Miss., for the last eight years, having moved from Sylvania. She was born May 15, 1925, the daughter of Henry E. and Linnie Burt Carruth.



Collins

Mr. Loyd Collins, 72, of Ider, passed away Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009, at Healthsouth Medical Center.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 15, at Rainsville Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James McLain officiating. Burial followed in Friendship Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Wilma Y. Collins of Ider; one son, Keith Collins and wife Sandy of Gary, Ind.; three step-daughters, Charlene Erwin of Gary, Ind., Deb Dalton of Ider and Pam Clift and husband Steve of Ider; three brothers, Kenneth Collins of Brown Town, Floyd Collins of Ider and Troy Collins of Calhoun, Ga.; four sisters, Elizabeth Akins of Fort Payne, Mattie Manning of Fyffe, Dorothy Sears of Powell and Lois Crabtree of Estill Springs, Tenn.; three grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and three step great grandchildren.

Mr. Collins was preceded in death his first wife and Keith's mother, Betty Collins; his mother, Thair Collins; his daddy, Nellie Collins; two brothers, Lawrence Collins and Delbert Collins; and two sisters, Lorene Collins and Bonnie Rigstad.



Graham

Miss Lena Graham, 79, of Rossville, Ga., passed away Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009, at Heritage Healthcare of LaFayette.

Grave side services were held Thursday, Dec. 10, at Green's Chapel Cemetery with the Rev. Earnest Corbitt officiating and Rainsville Funeral Home, Inc. directing.



Holsonback

Mrs. Mary Jo Holsonback, 75, of Fort Payne, passed away Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009, at DeKalb Regional Medical Center.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Survivors include her son, Randy Holsonback; grandchildren, Ray Cox and JoAnn Blanton.

Mrs. Holsonback was preceded in death by her daughter, Vertie Jo Cox.



Overton

Mrs. Velma Ovay Daniels Overton, 74, of Collinsville, passed away Monday, Dec. 7, 2009, at Cherokee Nursing Home.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 10, at Collinsville Funeral Home-Sharpe Chapel, with the Rev. Jimmy Dan Clanton officiating. Burial followed in Mount Vernon Cemetery. Casket bearers were her grandsons.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Charlotte and Sam Lindsey of Hokes Bluff, Hope Robertson of Tuckers Chapel, Portia Fowler of Mount Vernon, Kay and Houston Smith of Collinsville, Penny Kindsey of Tuckers Chapel and Christy Overton of Sand Rock; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and sister, Mildred Overton.



Smith

Mrs. Ivalene Smith, 77, of Rainsville, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009, at DeKalb Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 10, at W.T. Wilson Funeral Chapel with the Rev. David Talley and the Rev. Clinton Graham officiating. Burial followed in Green's Chapel Cemetery.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Michelle Smith of Fyffe; brother, Arlon Fowler of Missouri; grandchildren, Steven Smith and Stacey Smith, both of Fort Payne; and six grandchildren.

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Smith; parents, Arvin and Eula Stiefel Fowler; and brothers, Johnnie Eldon Fowler and Elmer Fowler.

Mrs. Smith was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church.



Thompson

Mr. Cecil Thompson, 86, of Rainsville, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009, at DeKalb Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 10, at Rainsville Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Brooks and the Rev. Waylon Smalley officiating. Burial followed in Rainsville Memorial Park.

Survivors include his wife, Dorene Thompson of Rainsville; one brother, Robert Thompson and wife Jean of Pleasant Hill Community; one sister, Maynell Miller and husband Paul of Fort Payne; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by his parents, J.W. and Mattie Thompson; five brothers, Hubert Thompson, Burnell Thompson, Arlin Thompson, J.B. Thompson and Claude Thompson; three sisters; two infant sisters; and Hattie Lee Sharp.



Ivanell Varnedore

Ivanell Varnedore, 69, of Flat Rock, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009, at her residence.

Memorial services were held Saturday, Dec. 12, at Kingdom Hall with Bro. James Saunier officiating.

Survivors include her husband, Aaron Varnedore; daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and Roy Chisenall of Bryant; son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Linda Varnedore of Talladega; grandchildren, Kasey Hicks, Ben Light and Lucas Varnedore; sister and brother-in-law, Claudie and Al Beaudoion of Flat Rock; brothers and sisters-in-law, MacArthur and Jean York of Flat Rock and Chris and Barbara York of Soddy Daisy; and several nieces and nephews.
